Week of January 26

Jay spent his first day working in the recording studio on his new CD this past Thursday.  Things went really well, and he made progress with three songs.  There is a good possibility that Marcus may be making an appearance on bass on one of the songs.  Jay says Marcus is becoming a great bass player!  Jay is going back into the studio this week, and hopes to record the vocals for these three songs.  It is a little too early to tell if these three will make it onto the CD, but I’ll keep you posted as he gets a little further into the project.

Jay has almost a month at home before the next performance date.  After being gone from home so long this last time, he is happy to have this block of time to catch up on some things.  He hopes to finish one of his online courses this week – he isn’t going to give up on that degree!  Jay has also gotten back to work on his book, after taking a little time off from it for the holidays.

Eric has added a little note from himself on Jay’s family 2009 New Year greeting webpage:

We are at almost 700 members on Jay’s new e-mail group already.  That is so great!  I know I can speak for Jay when I tell all of you that we really appreciate the support of this new e-mail group, and hope you enjoy being a part of it.

Have a great week,

Terri

Happy New Year Everyone!

Recently I mentioned that Jay and Eric were going on an adventure together to celebrate Eric’s 18th birthday, and to take care of a necessary task.  Eric wanted to take a train ride, and the plan was to take the train from Salt Lake City, Utah to Chicago, Illinois, then on to St. Louis, Missouri.  They started out at 4:30 AM New Year’s Day.  I heard from Jay about 10:30 PM that night, and they were only in Denver, Colorado.  For those of you familiar with the area, you know they hadn’t made much headway during all of those hours at all.  Turns out, they were stuck sitting on the train with no power for five hours.  Needless to say, Jay wanted off that train!  So, our wonderful travel agent managed to get them a flight out of Denver the next day, a hotel for the night, and about 2:00 AM they finally got to their hotel to get some much needed rest.  They then flew from Denver, Colorado to St. Louis, Missouri, where I had to give Jay the bad news that they would have to get on the light rail…yes, another train!  This trip would be a short one, just from the airport into the city, where the travel agent set them up in another hotel for the night.  However…they would have to walk from the hotel to the bus station to catch a 4:00 AM bus the next morning, to make the trip into Springfield, Missouri.  I promise, I’m not making any of this up!  HA!  Once in Springfield, they would pick up Jay’s car, which he had to leave there earlier in December when the brothers and band flew out to Spokane, Washington for Christmas performances after having finished up in Branson.  That was the task I mentioned earlier in this story…they had to drive Jay’s car back home to Utah.  So, the past couple of days have been spent making the drive from Missouri to Utah, where they braved high winds and ice through Nebraska, and are currently on their way through Wyoming.  I asked if they thought about making a sequel to the old movie, “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” and Jay said they planned to rent that movie when they get home.  :-)   Eric shared a funny story about a small town they stopped in a little earlier today.  They were in a restaurant, and while a man was cleaning off the table near Jay and Eric, Jay struck up a conversation with him.  He asked what the population was in the town, and the man responded by saying there were about 9,500 people.  Jay and Eric were quite surprised, as it seemed as though there was hardly a soul around.  Jay asked where everyone was, and the man said, “Most of them are in the prison, but I stay away from that place…I live by the jail!”  HA HA!  Anyway, they hope to be home from their great adventure sometime tonight, and I’m quite sure this is one birthday Eric won’t forget!
