This will be my last blog post in this format. I feel torn, but know that the new “Q & A With Jay” will be really fun.

On this wonderful day, I too want to honor my Savior, not only by giving gifts and reading Christmas cards, but by applying His teachings to my life. However, one of the hardest principles for me is learning to have a forgiving heart. In the past, when I’ve been offended, I would walk around and mope like a wounded elk (I’m told). I would hold a grudge, but because I can’t stay that way very long, I would eventually resolve the conflict.

My new strategy is to welcome criticism in a new light. Jesus said to “Love our enemies…” (Matthew 5:44), “Turn the other cheek…” (Luke 6:29), Agree with our adversary quickly…” (Matthew 5:25), and “Go the extra mile…” (Matthew 5:41).

I’ve wondered many times how to do this. Lately, I have been praying for those who have tried to hurt me (3 Nephi 12:44). I have thanked those who have criticized me (3 Nephi 12:39). I have been agreeing with those who have made judgmental comments about me, letting them know, “I will take that to heart, and will try to do better.” (3 Nephi 12:25) I have become more sensitive to others, and have gone the extra mile at times (3 Nephi 12:41), and you know what? It works! No more pain, mo more hurt, no more revenge, and a lot more joy.

The Gospel is a lifestyle of peace. We all have so much to learn about it, but isn’t it great to be on that straight and narrow path that leads us to happiness?

This is what I am celebrating Christmas for. Without “Christ” in “Christmas,” there is nothing.

I would like end this blog with one of my favorite quotes, and hope everyone will take it to heart. It is from James E. Faust:

“Almost everyday brings opportunities to perform unselfish acts for others. Such acts are unlimited and can be as simple as a kind word, a helping hand, or a gracious smile.”

May you all have a wonderful day, and a very positive New Year.

Love, Jay

P.S. Thanks again for all of your uplifting comments…and constructive criticism…ha!

Hello again to my friends out there! This and next week will be the last of this type of blog post from me. I have really enjoyed writing them, but more importantly, I’ve loved the comments and the friendships that have come from doing this.

The new “Q & A With Jay” will be fun. I can be more specific with your questions, and answer you individually. So, I look forward to next year!

Eric and I will be leaving Branson as soon as his school is out on the December 20. He has been a real “kick in the pants” for me. It’s been fun, and challenging, for both of us. He has accomplished all the goals he set out to, and this includes the achievement of Eagle Scout. Kandilyn and I are so proud of him, as we are of our other boys (who, by the way, also came to Branson and visited).

My wife and I have taken turns with Eric in Branson. Now that he is turning 16 on January 2, he can start dating. He told us that it will be so much fun to double date with his brother Jason. In fact, he said, “We can become girl ‘scouts’ together!” I died laughing.

See you next week…

Love, Jay

It is getting close to that time of year again! I can’t believe how time has flown by. I actually say that every year to myself, to cover up for how much time I waste during the year – ha ha! But I’m not alone! Just glad I still have things I want to do and accomplish. In fact, if there is one thing I hope to convey to you this coming year, it is that having “hope” itself is the most important and freeing desire we should have.

Having hope in the future, and in ourselves, brings a brightness and positive perspective into our thinking and behavior. Discouragement is not only terribly degrading for our emotional health, but it also brings everyone down around you. If you really understand that we are children of God, and have so much potential to become like Him, this idea alone would pick up your spirits and reaffirm truth! So, I wish you a very Merry Christmas, hope that you will move toward your New Year’s resolutions.

Love, Jay

Hello there! I just wanted to take a moment to thank all those who have made comments regarding the upcoming change with my blog. All of you are very sweet and uplifting to me. I appreciate and love you all very much.

Starting next year, there are five goals that I would like to incorporate in my life, and I am hoping you might want to do the same. When I read these, they helped me to re-focus on what I want to become, they are:

FIVE RULES TO BE HAPPY:

1. Free your heart from hatred—Forgive

2. Free your mind from worries—Most never happen

3. Live simply and appreciate what you have

4. Give more

5. Expect less

Hope you have a great week!

Love, Jay
